Troeshyna light rail line

Rapid light rail line in Kyiv’s major sleeping district Troeshchyna opened after reconstruction on October 24, 2012, the event was attended by Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov and chairman of Kyiv City Government Olexandr Popov. Seven reconstructed tram stations on route N4 running between Myloslavska Street and «Troeshchyna 2» interchange station of ring train line are equipped with groups of turnstiles and validators of paper tickets and contactless cards. Another tram route N5 between «Alexandra Saburova» and «Troeshchyna 2» stations is served by renovated cars equipped with electronic validators. Identical AFCS «CS-Trans®» devices were installed on special trolley routes going from interchange hub «General Vatutin» to the stations on the right bank of the Dnipro river. The main objective of reconstruction was to develop a combined route “tram - ring train” and «tram – trolley» for passengers transfer between the main transport hubs of right bank (Pertivka metro station) and Troeshchyna sleeping district for special «discounted» fare - 2 UAH for a combined trip.

CARD SYSTEMS® took part in implementation of this project as a developer of automated fare collection system (AFCS). Unique feature of this project was the use of electronic validation of single ride paper ticket with a «friend or foe» function and reuse protection. Validators are either built in turnstiles or used as mounted device fixed in the cabin of the vehicle.
