Financial Results of AFCS Pilot Projects in 2013

In May – June of 2013 CARD SYSTEMS upon the request of «Kievpastrans» has realized 2 projects on the implementation of the CS-Trans Automated Fare Collection System (AFCS ) at land-based public transport in Kiev.

The first project was focused on the modernization of the AFCS at Borschahivska Light Rail Line through the replacement of turnstiles’ electronic ticket-stampers with electronic validators working only with special one-use paper tickets having a dual protection. The implementation of these tickets having an electronic patented validation technology has made it impossible to use fake or already used ticket for the second time.

The second project on the implementation of the similar purpose, but different by design validators was realized on more than 100 buses at the Bus Depot No.6.

Both types of validators also make it possible to use contactless cards to pay for multiple trips. Including the ones being compatible with the Kiev (Metro) Metropolitan Railway fare system.

A successful accomplishment of these pilot projects within the shortest time-frame and effective follow-up from CARD SYSTEMS has received a great appreciation of the client. Serghiy Lytvynov, the General Director Deputy of “Kievpastrans” has recognized the competence, professionalism and efficiency of our specialists.

The main result of these AFCS pilot projects implemented at the Borschahivska Light Rail Line and buses of the Bus Depot No.6 was more than a 30% increase of income in the second half of 2013, if compared with the same period of 2012.

This has allowed “Kievpastrans” to meet the anticipated 9 months pay-back period for the investments into the CS-Trans AFCS implementation.

So, the actual received data confirm an indisputable cost efficiency and pay-back of the CS-Trans AFCS implementation not only at the Metro, but also on land-based public transport.
